Tango Belt for older adults at elevated risk of major hip injury
Clinical indicators: Tango Belt is for patients with a diagnosed bone loss condition that converts a fall into a major injury (diagnosed osteoporosis, osteopenia or a prior fragility fracture) and a documented history of falls establishing that an injurious event has occurred or is actively recurring.
Targeted intervention for at risk patients
You already work to reduce fall risk factors through medication review, strength & balance training, environmental modifications, osteoporosis treatment, and other standard of care measures. For many patients, these measures meaningfully reduce their fall risk. In patients diagnosed with weakened or osteoporotic bone and a documented history of falls, when a fall does occur, it carries a markedly elevated risk of major hip injury. Within this patient population, hip fractures are a leading cause of hospitalization, loss of independence, and mortality.
Introducing Tango Belt
Tango Belt is a prescription medical device indicated as an adjunct to standard of care that delivers active treatment during a serious hip impacting fall. Through its use of on-board sensors and algorithms, Tango Belt actively monitors patient movement and identifies in progress falls that would result in serious hip injury (fracture or dislocation), automatically triggering deployment of an airbag to bilaterally surround the hips within 90 milliseconds. The airbag attenuates the ground impact forces on the hip that could otherwise result in serious hip injury.
Not all falls trigger deployment. Tango Belt discriminates between a serious hip impacting fall and lower risk falls in which the person is likely to impact other body areas first or experience a non-serious hip impact, as well as normal activities of daily living.
Additionally, the Tango Belt Companion Mobile app tracks wear performance and sends fall notifications to patient-specified contacts.
Tango Belt is an FDA-authorized medical device (DEN240021).
Clinically proven to reduce major hip injury due to falls
Primary outcome: 90.9% relative risk reduction (RRR) in the proportion of patients experiencing major hip injuries due to falls compared to standard of care.
Secondary outcomes:
66% RRR in fall-related emergency department visits
56% RRR in fall-related hospitalizations
Zero major hip injuries in the intervention group among those wearing the device at the time of a hip-impacting fall, versus 32 major hip injuries in the control group

Prescribing Tango Belt
Tango Belt is prescribed to patients with a diagnosed bone loss condition and a documented history or risk of falls as an adjunctive treatment to standard of care for these patients at high risk of a fall-induced major hip injury.
Select a size by measuring the patient’s waist circumference
The Tango Belt is available in five sizes by waist circumference from 29 to 50 inches:
Size Waist circumference
XS 29–32 inches
S 33–36 inches
M 37–40 inches
L 41–45 inches
XL 46–50 inches
Measure the patient’s waist circumference level with the top of the iliac crest at the end of a normal exhale; the same landmark where Tango Belt sits when worn. The waist circumference measurement selects the correct size and confirms the patient falls within the range Tango Belt has been evaluated for.
Fine tune patient fit
Tango Belt includes a built-in sizing strap to customize patient fit once a size is selected to keep the belt correctly positioned and the sensors and airbag correctly oriented through normal daily movement.
